SSCEF sponsors, each August Fun Night dinner. This year we honor & celebrate one of our "own", a longtime Falmouth Rod & Gun Club member, Francis "Fran" Smith. Menu: Wayne’s apple celery salad, pork roast, baked potato/sweet, seasonal veg and a dessert.

About the Event
We’ll be recognizing Francis Smith for his many contributions to conservation on Cape Cod (particularly the Quashnet River)and regionally. Tom Parker will do the honors. Mike Palmer is preparing an original sea-run brook trout print as an award. Carl and his team are preparing dinner.
A Falmouth, MA man, <Fran Smith> was recently honored by a national conservation group for spending fifty years restoring the Quashnet River. Francis Smith recently won the Ray Mortensen Award, the highest honor given to volunteers of Trout Unlimited.
Smith led efforts to restore the Quashnet River, which runs through Mashpee and Falmouth, after it was turned into a cranberry bog, then abandoned. Smith has been volunteering for the project since the 1970's. He said preserving the land from development was the hardest part. And the work has been a joy:
